Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a fishing license?
Yes! All anglers aged 16 years or older MUST have a California fishing license printed in hand before we leave the dock. You may purchase day fishing licenses online at https://www.ca.wildlifelicense.com/InternetSales/
Do I need to tip the captain and crew after a charter? What is the recommended amount?
Yes, it is customary to tip the captain and crew. The industry standard is between 10 to 20%.
Where do you depart from?
We pick up from Float 5 right near where the Catalina Express comes in. On cruise ship days we pick up from the Green Pier.
What time should we arrive?
For any charter up to 12 hours please arrive at least 15 minutes before departure, for overnights please arrive at least 30 minutes before departure. To avoid any delays, please make sure before arrival that you have you have your fishing license.
Are you kid friendly?
Absolutely! We encourage and love nothing more than teaching kids how to fish and igniting a passion for the outdoors. With that being said, we are not hired babysitters. Safety is our number one priority, and we expect that parents/caregivers maintain a level of responsibility over their children.
Are we allowed to bring alcohol aboard?
Yes! Beer and wine are fine, liquor is discouraged.
Can I bring a cooler?
Yes, please limit one cooler per group.
Is there a cost to filet our fish?
Nope! High quality fish filet is included with your charter.
Can we bring our own rods and tackle?
Our boat comes fully equipped with everything you need to catch a fish of any size, but you are more than welcome to bring yours as well.
What do I need to bring on overnights?
Make sure to pack clothes for cold mornings and hot afternoons. It is highly suggested that you dress in layers as mornings tend to be cold and get warmer as the day progresses. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats are recommended even on cloudy days as sun rays are more intense over the water. Boots/comfortable shoes are preferred over flip flops due to their slippery nature. Cameras are always recommended. All meals are provided as well as blankets and pillows.
What safety equipment do you have on board?
The safety of our passengers is our number one priority. We require all of our captains and crew to be CPR Certified. We have a medical grade First Aid kit in the event of any basic emergency. We also have an AED on board in the event of someone going into cardiac arrest.
What is your cancellation policy?
All reservations require a 50% deposit with the remaining balance due the day prior to departure. Cancellations are accepted up until 7 days before departure. Cancellations made within 7 days will result in forfeiting your deposit.
The Catalina Express cancelled our ride over due to bad weather and we’re booked for a morning charter! What do we do?
We understand that we’re at the mercy of the weather and it can oftentimes change quickly. If there is a cancelled boat, we will know, and are happy to reschedule for our next available time or cancel if necessary.
